Experience the Richness of Celtic Culture at the Florida Keys Celtic Festival

MARATHON, Florida Keys — The upcoming Florida Keys Celtic Festival is set for January 11-12, 2025, and promises to be an exciting celebration of Celtic heritage featuring music, food, and family-friendly activities. This annual event, held in Marathon, stands as a cherished gathering for families and individuals alike, offering a vibrant atmosphere filled with cultural festivities.

Pre-Festival Kick-Off Parties to Set the Stage

The excitement begins on Friday, January 10, with pre-festival kick-off parties at two locations in Marathon. From 5 to 7 p.m., attendees can enjoy live performances by the West of Galway duo and the Police Pipe and Drum Corps of Florida at Dockside at Boot Key Harbor, located at 35 Sombrero Blvd. The festivities continue at 7 p.m. at Keys Fisheries, where the Police Pipe and Drum Corps will perform again, creating an inviting atmosphere to kick off the weekend.

A Weekend Filled with Live Celtic Music

Throughout the festival weekend, visitors can enjoy a lineup of talented Celtic musicians, including the Scottish band Albannach, the high-energy Irish band Jamison, the West of Galway duo, and Ireland’s own The Screaming Orphans. These performances contribute to the festive spirit, showcasing the vibrant musical traditions that embody the Celtic culture.

Engaging Activities for All Ages

The Florida Keys Celtic Festival offers a variety of activities, ensuring that there is something for everyone. Highlights include a Highland Athletics competition, which features the only sanctioned women’s Scottish Highland Games challenge in the country. Additionally, attendees can enjoy sheepherding demonstrations, traditional Irish and Scottish dancing, and a special art show featuring local Florida Keys artists.

A Family-Friendly Atmosphere with Special Children’s Activities

The festival is designed with families in mind, featuring a Children’s Glen that boasts pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, games, and numerous other activities. This family-focused area ensures that children of all ages can partake in the celebration of Celtic heritage while enjoying a fun-filled atmosphere.

Culinary Delights and Authentic Celtic Experiences

Food lovers will not be disappointed at the festival, with a variety of authentic Celtic food and beverages on offer. Attendees can indulge in high tea at the Iona Tea Garden, savor Scottish eggs, or enjoy classic fish and chips. A special Afternoon Tea event with Mary Queen of Scots will also be held on Saturday at 3 p.m., providing a unique dining experience that complements the festival’s theme.

The festival goes beyond entertainment with workshops available in the Celtic Crossroads area, where participants can deepen their understanding of Celtic history and culture. Activities will include lessons on dance, literature, storytelling, clothing, and even how to play traditional bagpipes, making it an enriching experience for all.

The Florida Keys Celtic Festival will take place at Marathon Community Park, located at mile marker 49 on the oceanside. Festival hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is affordable, with single-day tickets costing $12 in advance online or $15 at the gate.
