In celebration of Women’s Month, New Balance proudly supported three Malaysian athletes—Ann Pow, Esther Joy, and Nur Fitri Najwa—at the inaugural Nagoya Women’s Marathon.

On March 10, 2024, the city of Nagoya, Japan, emerged as a global hub for female athletes as participants from across the globe gathered for this historic marathon. Among them were the remarkable Malaysian trio: Ann Pow, Esther Joy, and Nur Fitri Najwa, each representing the spirit of empowerment and athletic excellence.

As the chilly morning air reached -1°C, the trio set off from their hotel to the stadium, donning the latest New Balance FuelCell SC Elite V4 footwear. Despite the cold, the atmosphere was electric, with diverse runners preparing mentally and physically for the challenges ahead.

Empowered Female Athletes

In the fiercely competitive arena of marathon running, each athlete brings a unique combination of commitment, personality, and skill. Ann Pow exemplifies unwavering determination, finishing the full marathon in an impressive time of 3 hours and 18 minutes. Her relentless pursuit of excellence serves as a beacon of inspiration to fellow runners.

Esther Joy merges a relaxed attitude with fierce competitiveness. Before the race, she showcased her New Balance attire effortlessly, transitioning from a calm demeanor to fierce focus during warm-ups. Finishing 8th with a remarkable time of 1 hour and 24 minutes in the half marathon, Esther established her prowess and earned the respect of competitors.

On the other hand, Nur Fitri Najwa represents a quiet yet powerful determination. Of a more reserved nature, she is passionate about motivating others and promoting inclusivity within the running community. Completing the half marathon in under 2 hours attests to her unwavering commitment, highlighting the essence of patience and resilience.

The Essence of New Balance

Together, Ann, Esther, and Nur Fitri embody New Balance’s philosophy of “Run Your Way.” Beyond their personal achievements, they share a commitment to inspiring others, showcasing the transformative power of sport. These athletes serve as role models, embodying the values of endurance and grit.

Insights From the Trio

After the marathon, we had an opportunity to speak with the athletes regarding their running journeys and motivations. Ann Pow expressed that her focus shifted from merely completing marathons to setting measurable goals for her performance, highlighting the importance of motivation in training.

Furthermore, Nur Fitri Najwa emphasized the role of New Balance not just in her performance, but also as essential mental and physical support. Encouraging fellow runners to focus on their own progress, she stated, “It’s always you versus you.”

Esther Joy articulated her ambitions of becoming a top runner, fueled by the quality and comfort of New Balance’s gear, particularly the FuelCell SC Elite V4, which she chose for its energy return during her race. Each athlete—through their dedication and experiences—highlights the critical role that proper training gear plays in enhancing performance.

Conclusion

The Nagoya Women’s Marathon served as a powerful reminder of women’s resilience in sports and the capacity to inspire future generations. New Balance stands at the forefront of this movement, encouraging athletes to push their limits and realize their potential.
