The Denver Colfax Marathon Introduces the ‘Colorado Half Marathon Showdown’
Denver, CO (January 29, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Denver Colfax Marathon, presented by Cigna Healthcare, is excited to launch a new competitive prize program for elite runners residing in Colorado. Known as the ‘Colorado Half Marathon Showdown,’ this initiative will feature a cash prize pool aggregating thousands of dollars, specifically aimed at supporting the fastest local male and female athletes during the half marathon scheduled for May.
According to Andrea Dowdy, CEO of the Denver Colfax Marathon, “Our mission has always been to give back to the community.” The marathon traditionally allocates a $150,000 prize pool for charity every year, and the introduction of the ‘Colorado Half Marathon Showdown’ enhances commitment to support local runners. This fund not only recognizes diligent training efforts but also celebrates athletic excellence within the community.
The prize pool for local Colorado athletes running the half marathon is set at an impressive $22,560. It will be awarded as follows: $5,280 for first place, $3,000 for second, $2,000 for third, and $1,000 for fourth. This competitive edge aims to attract a significant number of top-tier athletes, potentially elevating the race’s profile both locally and nationally.
Patrick Rizzo, a past Denver Colfax Marathon winner and event record holder, expressed great enthusiasm about the new initiative. He stated, “Colorado has some of the best runners in the country. We are proud to present our local runners with support and competitive opportunities that will continue to elevate our state’s presence in endurance sports.”
Beyond the new prize pool, the Denver Colfax Marathon will also incentivize all marathon and half marathon participants who manage to break a course record on race day. Achieving this feat will yield an additional $1,000 prize for breaking the event record, and another $1,000 for setting a new state record, creating even more excitement surrounding the event.
The Denver Colfax Marathon is a registered nonprofit organization (501c3) with a strong commitment to community engagement. It provides thousands of children with free entry to the race weekend annually and collaborates with over 150 charities. The event’s charity partners program allows nonprofits to leverage the race platform for fundraising and awareness, ensuring that their messages reach the broader community.
“Our charity partners program has a direct impact on our local environment, giving Colorado nonprofits a chance to share their positive narratives,” shared Dowdy. She highlighted the enthusiasm surrounding the extended support for local running communities through this new prize initiative. The Denver Colfax Marathon is hailed as the largest marathon weekend in the eight-state Rocky Mountain Region, featuring eight races over two days, with around 25,000 participants expected this year.
Registration for the Denver Colfax Marathon, taking place from May 16-18, 2025, is now open. For those interested in competing, further information and registration can be found at www.runcolfax.org.
