Augusta University to Host the 2025 Augusta Half Marathon

Augusta University is excited to announce that it will serve as the host site and sponsor of the 2025 Augusta Half Marathon/10K/5K, presented by Wier/Stewart. The highly anticipated event is scheduled for Saturday, February 22, and will offer opportunities for runners of all skill levels to participate in a community-driven celebration of fitness.

Race Details and Community Impact

The Augusta Half Marathon/10K/5K features three distinct races that are organized by the Augusta Sports Council. Each race will commence and conclude on Walker Street, which is located on the Summerville campus, adjacent to the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre. Participants can expect courses that lead into the scenic Summerville neighborhood before returning to the campus via Taylor Street, enhancing the event’s local charm.

Quotes from Augusta University Leadership

“Augusta University is thrilled to host the 17th annual Augusta Half Marathon on our Summerville Campus,” expressed AU President Russell T. Keen. President Keen highlighted the significant contribution of the Augusta Sports Council in developing this event into a premier racing opportunity for local runners. He emphasized that the event not only promotes healthy lifestyles but also raises funds for the G.A.M.E.S. Scholarship fund tailored for graduating high school student-athletes in the Augusta community.

Race Schedule and Additional Events

The race schedule is as follows: the half marathon will kick off at 7:15 a.m., the 10K will start at 7:25 a.m., and the 5K will begin at 7:45 a.m. For those who prefer a virtual experience, all three events will offer virtual participation options. Moreover, the event will include a Medals for Miles youth fun run for children in kindergarten through third grade. Interested participants can complete their registration until Wednesday, February 19, via the official registration page.

Supporting Local Scholarships and Community Engagement

Proceeds from the Augusta Half Marathon/10K/5K benefit the mission of the Augusta Sports Council and the annual G.A.M.E.S. Scholarship Fund. This fund is dedicated to supporting selected graduating high school student-athletes in the community. Furthermore, the courses for these races are certified by USA Track and Field, making them qualifiers for the prestigious AJC Peachtree Road Race, thereby enhancing their credibility and appeal.

Augusta University and Community Involvement

The Augusta Half Marathon/10K/5K is part of the CSRA Hat Trick Challenge. Participants can engage in multiple local races, including the Triple Crown Road Race in Aiken and the Palmetto Peach Half Marathon in North Augusta later in the year. This challenge aims to foster a sense of community and encourage running as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Homecoming Weekend Festivities

In addition to the races, the event coincides with Augusta University’s annual Homecoming weekend. This festive time will feature several home games from various sports teams, kicking off with the men’s tennis team’s match against Francis Marion. The homecoming festivities include games in men’s and women’s basketball and baseball, culminating in a weekend full of community interaction and support for AU’s athletic programs.

Conclusion: A Celebration of Health and Community

As we approach this exciting event, it is clear that the Augusta Half Marathon/10K/5K is more than just a race; it is a celebration of health, community spirit, and support for local youth. The collective efforts between Augusta University and the Augusta Sports Council showcase a commitment to promoting wellness and education within the community.
