The Countdown to the 2025 United Airlines New York City Half: What You Need to Know

The 2025 United Airlines New York City Half is fast approaching, set to take place on March 16, 2025. This annual event, known for its scenic route through Brooklyn and Manhattan, is expected to attract tens of thousands of runners from around the globe, eager to tackle the 13.1-mile challenge. Organized by the New York Road Runners (NYRR), the NYC Half is recognized as a premier half marathon, featuring a mix of elite athletes and enthusiastic amateurs.

ABC 7 New York: Broadcasting the Race Live

As a proud sponsor, ABC 7 New York will provide extensive coverage of the event, including interviews and live updates beginning at 6 a.m. on race day. Viewers can also watch the event through a livestream available on abc7NY.com, starting at 7 a.m. This coverage ensures that both local viewers and international audiences won’t miss a moment of this iconic race.

A Historic Route Change: Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge

In an exciting update for this year, runners will be crossing the Brooklyn Bridge for the first time, marking a significant alteration from the event’s previous route which included the Manhattan Bridge. This change is due to ongoing construction, and participants will enjoy breathtaking views as they make their way towards the finish line in Central Park. The race will kick off near the historic Brooklyn Museum and wind through some of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods.

Stars and Community Heroes to Watch

This year’s NYC Half also highlights a diverse array of runners, including community heroes and local celebrities. Notable participants include Danny Garcia, the champion from Top Chef, and Vinny Guadagnino from MTV’s Jersey Shore, running in his debut half marathon. With inspiring stories from individuals overcoming personal challenges, such as Mildred Baker, a 79-year-old novice runner, and several others who showcase resilience and commitment, the event promises to be both competitive and uplifting.

Environmental Initiatives and the NYRR Team for Climate

Dedicated to sustainability, the NYRR has launched the NYRR Team for Climate program. This initiative encourages runners to fundraise to offset the carbon footprint of the event, promoting a greener future for the community. Participants will be equipped with environmentally friendly finisher medals made from recycled materials, and the event’s waste management will include composting efforts and donations of surplus food.

Participate Virtually with Strava

For those unable to attend in person, the NYC Half offers a virtual participation option between March 8 and 16, allowing runners to complete the 13.1 miles wherever they are. Registration is open for various tiers, including a free option, which grants participants the chance to earn entry into the 2026 NYC Half. This flexible approach allows running enthusiasts worldwide to engage with the event, regardless of their location.

Join the Fun at the Times Square Kids Run

Adding to the excitement, the Times Square Kids Run will take place on the same day, allowing approximately 1,500 children to participate in various fun runs. This event seeks to inspire youth to engage in physical activity and foster a sense of community. With both adult and youth races, the NYC Half is a celebration of health and sportsmanship that unites participants of all ages.

How to Stay Informed and Get Involved

To learn more about the 2025 United Airlines NYC Half, stay updated with event details and community initiatives via the New York Road Runners website. The upcoming race is not only a testament to athletic prowess but also a significant gathering promoting community spirit, environmental consciousness, and personal achievement. Whether participating in person or virtually, the NYC Half fosters a powerful connection among runners, spectators, and the vibrant New York City backdrop.
