Da Nang International Marathon 2025: A Resounding Success

The Da Nang International Marathon 2025, held at the picturesque East Sea Park, emerged as an extraordinary event on Sunday, showcasing its reputation as a premier marathon in Vietnam and beyond. With an impressive attendance figure of over 7,000 athletes, including nearly 3,000 international participants from 72 countries, this year’s marathon marked a significant increase in participation, reflecting a 45% growth compared to the previous year.

An Unmatched Running Experience

Under favorable weather conditions, runners commenced their early morning preparation at 3:00 AM, creating an atmosphere charged with excitement. This year’s marathon not only set a record for the number of international runners but also showcased the stunning coastal beauty of Da Nang. Competitors participated in various distances, including a 42km full marathon, a 21km half marathon, and a fun 5km race, all set against the city’s beautiful backdrop.

Celebrating Local and International Talent

The event witnessed intense competition, particularly in the men’s and women’s 42km categories. Vietnamese athlete Huynh Anh Khoi claimed the first place with a remarkable time of 2 hours 33 minutes and 55 seconds. Following closely were Daidoji Yujiro from Japan and Le Tan Hi from Vietnam, who secured second and third places respectively. In the women’s division, Pham Thi Binh led the charge, finishing in 3 hours 1 minute and 57 seconds, adding to the local pride of the event.

Impressive Half Marathon Performances

The 21km half marathon also produced exciting results. Malaysian runner Govendarajoo Vimal took home the top prize in the men’s category with a time of 1 hour 12 minutes and 28 seconds. In the women’s half marathon, Vietnamese athlete Trieu Thi Binh showcased her prowess, winning with a time of 1 hour 24 minutes and 10 seconds. Both events highlighted the growing talent pool in both local and international athletics.

5km Category Highlights

The 5km event saw young and enthusiastic runners competing fiercely. Vietnamese athlete Nguyen Van Khang clinched the top spot in the men’s division, while Ly Mui Sau soared to victory in the women’s category. These shorter races not only cater to seasoned runners but also encourage new participants to engage in the running community, promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Future of the Da Nang International Marathon

The success of the 2025 edition has set ambitious goals for future events. Mr. Bady Pham, Director of Pulse Active Company, announced plans to continue expanding participation, aiming for an impressive 20,000 athletes by 2027. With the rising trend of sports tourism, marathons like the Da Nang International Marathon serve not only as athletic competitions but also as catalysts for tourism in the scenic coastal city of Da Nang.

A Growing International Reputation

Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports, Nguyen Trong Thao, emphasized the marathon’s significant impact on both local sports culture and international attention. The continued success and organizational improvements year after year aim to solidify the Da Nang International Marathon’s position on the world stage. By enhancing the athlete experience and increasing global participation, the event is set to become a fixture in the international marathon calendar.

As the marathon continues to evolve, it not only highlights Da Nang as a notable destination for sports tourism but also fosters goodwill and camaraderie among athletes from various backgrounds.
