LGFA Star Grace Clifford’s Nutritional Journey as She Prepares for the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon

Grace Clifford, a prominent LGFA star, is making waves as she continues her training for the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon while being nine months pregnant. In a recent interview, she opened up about her strategies for maintaining energy levels and her overall approach to nutrition during this pivotal time in her life. Contrary to what one might expect, Grace maintains that running during the latter stages of pregnancy is achievable with the right nutrition and preparation.

“People often ask how I can still run and have good energy in my third trimester,” Grace shared, emphasizing the importance of frequent, nutritious snacks. She highlighted the role that a balanced diet plays in sustaining her energy while managing the rigorous demands of her training schedule.

The Significance of Nutrition

Nutrition is paramount for athletes; this sentiment is amplified when discussing training during pregnancy. Grace explained, “Having a strong focus on nutrition has always been important for me in my sports career. This principle is even more crucial now.” Taking a balanced approach, she ensures she nourishes her body sufficiently to support both her training and the health of her baby. “I aim to enjoy a variety of foods and maintain balance rather than strict limitations,” she added, showcasing her belief that treats like takeaways still have a place in a healthy diet.

Moreover, Grace’s insights extend beyond the physiological aspects of nutrition. She acknowledges the psychological benefits of indulging in her favorite foods occasionally while maintaining a predominantly nutritious regimen. “Life is for living, and I enjoy dining out or having a treat now and then,” she noted, promoting a healthy relationship with food.

Hydration as a Key Element

In addition to nutrition, Grace places significant emphasis on hydration during her pregnancy. She reveals a shift in her appetite, often waking up hungry and adjusting her mealtime accordingly to create a more balanced intake throughout the day. “I’ve always tried to stay hydrated, which has become even more crucial while pregnant,” Grace mentioned, explaining how she keeps a water bottle handy to meet her hydration goals. Her aim is to drink two 1.2-liter bottles daily, demonstrating her commitment to mindful hydration.

Adjustments to Diet and Caffeine Intake

With impending motherhood comes certain dietary adjustments. Grace has had to reduce her caffeine intake, opting for one cup of coffee daily and replacing regular tea with decaffeinated options. “It’s an adjustment, but it’s necessary for the well-being of my baby,” she stated, further highlighting her dedication to aligning her dietary habits with her health goals.

A Day in Grace’s Nutritional Life

Grace’s daily meals are a reflection of her balanced dietary ethos. She enjoys overnight oats for breakfast—an easy way to incorporate protein—followed by well-timed snacks throughout the day. “Whether it’s a granola bar or a slice of toast with jam, I listen to what my body needs,” she explained. When it comes to lunch, she may have soup or bagels with cream cheese, aiming to sustain her energy levels effectively.

For dinner, Grace sticks to traditional foods, often enjoying a hearty plate that includes potatoes, vegetables, and a protein source. “I strive to mix up my protein sources to ensure I’m getting enough iron,” she emphasized. An evening snack may consist of cookies or biscuits, stressing that balance is the ultimate goal. She also enjoys eggs a couple of times a week, which she considers an excellent source of nourishment.

The Importance of Balanced Eating

Grace firmly believes that a balanced diet directly impacts her energy and performance, both in her athletic pursuits and daily life. “If I eat correctly and strike the right balance, I know I’ll feel good,” she noted. Reflecting on the balance she seeks, she advises that it’s essential to listen to one’s body and recognize hunger cues, stating, “Your body is like a car; you have to fuel it with the right ingredients.” This metaphor resonates with her long-standing commitment to fitness and nutrition.

For those participating in the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon or engaging in physical activity, Grace’s journey serves as an inspirational guide. As she prepares for this significant event, she illuminates the importance of proper nutrition, hydration, and balance, providing valuable insights for athletes and non-athletes alike. Remember, if you’re contemplating similar dietary adjustments or have health concerns, consulting a healthcare professional is always recommended.
