Record-Setting Participation at the Ascension Seton Austin Marathon

AUSTIN, Texas. (February 10, 2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The prestigious Ascension Seton Austin Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K® is slated for this weekend, welcoming thousands of runners and fans to the vibrant streets of Austin. With varying race distances suitable for all fitness levels, a comprehensive Health & Fitness Expo, and an engaging finish line festival spanning four blocks, this event promises an exhilarating experience for both participants and spectators alike. On Sunday, February 16, more than 23,000 runners from all 50 states and over 50 countries will take on the exhilarating course, with elite athletes competing for a $20,000 prize purse broadcast live on FloTrack.

Growing Community Enthusiasm for the Marathon

“The Austin Marathon continues to grow, demonstrating the incredible enthusiasm and commitment of our running community,” stated Stacy Keese, co-owner of the Austin Marathon. “This year, we’ve seen record registration figures and a sold-out expo, creating an unmatched excitement that embodies the spirit of our city. The collaboration of volunteers, spectators, and determined athletes on race day showcases the essence of community in Austin.”

Kickoff Events and Expo Details

The Austin Marathon weekend kicks off on Friday, February 14th, with an Official Shakeout Run hosted by Fleet Feet & BPN at Palmer Events Center at 7:00 AM; over 900 runners are expected to participate. The Health & Fitness Expo presented by PNC Bank will also commence on the same day, with opportunities for attendees to discover the latest running gear, engage with the Austin Marathon Pacers, and sample an array of food and beverages. The expo will be accessible to the public on February 14th from 11 AM – 7 PM, and on February 15th from 9 AM to 6 PM, accommodating the record number of participants.

Race Day Schedule and Highlights

On Sunday, the day begins with the National Anthem sung by Latin Grammy Nominated Gina Chavez, followed by the race starting officiated by Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Thomas using a ceremonial gong. Runners will begin their journey along a visually stunning course, showcasing the charm of Austin, starting at 7:00 AM. The family-friendly 5K benefiting the Paramount Theatre will commence shortly after at 8:15 AM, with both races featuring the iconic Texas State Capitol as their backdrop. Runners will be cheered on by spectators who line the streets, energized by live music, enthusiastic cheer zones, and well-equipped aid stations throughout the route.

Post-Race Celebration and Activities

Upon completing the race, athletes and their friends can engage in the expansive four-block-long finish line festival, featuring various highlights. Participants can enjoy the Spurs DJ Zone, the BPN bodega, and the Tito’s Handmade Vodka Bar among other attractions. Local food trucks will also serve delicious meals, ensuring a festive atmosphere. Tasman Sharpe and the Ripsnorters will perform at the main festival stage at 9 AM, keeping post-race celebrations lively. Additional after-parties can be found throughout the city, including the official celebration at Mayfair.

Community Impact through the Austin Marathon Gives Program

The Austin Marathon is deeply committed to its role in supporting local non-profits through its Gives Program, presented by the Moody Foundation. This year, thirty organizations will partake in the initiative, with the Moody Foundation offering to match donations up to $10,000 per organization. This program emphasizes the marathon’s dedication to community welfare and highlights the contribution of volunteers, with many of the participating organizations providing volunteer support during the event.

Live Broadcast and Accessibility of the Event

The FloTrack Live Broadcast will capture key moments throughout the marathon, showcasing elite athletes competing for the $20,000 prize purse. The coverage, starting at 6:40 AM on February 16, will include commentary by running experts Toni Reavis and Paras Shah, providing engaging insights into the competition as well as coverage of all finishers crossing the line. Viewers can watch the live stream free on FloTrack, ensuring that the excitement reaches a global audience.
