Rescue from Above
After being exposed to the elements for approximately 22 hours, luck shone upon them once again. Rescuers, equipped with night vision goggles, located the pair and swiftly hoisted them to safety via helicopter. “The moment we found the backpack—it was lovely,” Julian Hernandez shared with local media, emphasizing how fortunate they felt in their unexpected discovery.

The story took an intriguing turn when it was revealed that the backpack had belonged to another hiker, 15-year-old Levi Dittmann, who had gotten lost in the same area 45 days prior. Dittmann had been on a hike when he lost his way, resulting in him having to leave his bag behind, which had subsequently remained untouched until Hernandez and his son stumbled upon it.

Dittmann collected essential survival supplies before his journey with the intention of being prepared for any situation. After his rescue, he reflected on the bittersweet nature of losing his backpack, valued at $200 to $300.
