New York City is a vibrant hub for runners, seamlessly blending the dynamic energy of its streets with breathtaking riverside and park views. The city offers a plethora of running opportunities, from scenic waterfront paths to tranquil park trails. With an expansive network of running clubs and iconic races, the running community here embodies the city’s relentless spirit and diversity.

One notable organization pushing this community forward is the Mile Style Run Club, based in the Bronx. Founded by Miguel Hernandez in 2016, the club has transformed from a modest gathering to a thriving group of over 90 dedicated runners. Initially inspired to tackle the health issues that plague the Bronx—ranking as the most unhealthy county in New York State—Hernandez aimed to foster a sense of community among local runners.

Hernandez’s journey with running started as a passion and transformed into a community mission. You can explore more about his story and the impact of the Mile Style Run Club through a video sponsored by HOKA, which delves into the community-building efforts behind the club along with run club recommendations and popular running events across the city.
