Chongqing Hechuan Half Marathon 2025: A Celebration of Sports, Culture, and Nature

Chongqing, China – The highly anticipated Hechuan Half Marathon 2025 is set to take place on March 30 in the picturesque Hechuan District. This announcement was made during a press conference held on Wednesday, signaling the return of this popular annual event.

The Hechuan Half Marathon is part of the “Healthy China, Chongqing Action” initiative, emphasizing the importance of sports and health in the region. Now in its third year, following successful editions in 2023 and 2024, this year’s marathon is organized according to the A1 standards of the Chinese Athletics Association, promising an exceptional experience for runners.

This year, the Hechuan Half Marathon will feature two main categories: the half marathon covering a distance of 21.0975 km and a shorter public health run of 4.2 km. Registration for the half marathon has now closed, with over 10,000 participants from 30 provinces in China, including Beijing, Guangdong, Sichuan, and Guizhou. Additionally, international runners from Kenya, the UK, and Ireland will also be competing, further enhancing the event’s global appeal.

Under the captivating theme “Scenic Three Rivers, Running Through Millennia,” the marathon route showcases the breathtaking landscape of Hechuan with its distinctive “Three Rivers and Six Banks” geography. Participants will start their journey at the northeast gate of the Hechuan District People’s Government, passing by notable landmarks such as the Jialing River Nanping Bridge and Diaoyu City Avenue, before finishing at People’s Square. The health run route takes runners along Jiabin South Road, offering a shorter yet equally stunning experience.

Yuan Xiaoqin, Deputy District Mayor of Hechuan, highlighted the thoughtful design of the marathon route, aimed at amplifying the natural beauty of the Three Rivers and the historical significance of landmarks like Diaoyu City and Wenfeng Ancient Street. The course is designed to meet the highest standards, featuring wide and flat pathways with elevation differences maintained at a manageable level.

This year’s marathon places a significant emphasis on enhancing the overall experience for runners. Expanded medical support will be available with additional stations and emergency resources positioned along the route. Runners can also enjoy a taste of local culture, with Hechuan’s traditional delicacies offered at various supply points. Unique cultural elements, such as a city gate-opening ceremony and specially designed finisher medals, will immerse participants in the rich heritage of Hechuan.

Wu Daming, a Standing Committee Member of the CPC Hechuan District Committee, reinforced the marathon’s broader purpose as a mechanism for promoting the intertwining of culture, sports, and tourism. He articulated the vision that the marathon serves not just as a race, but as a platform for economic development and cultural exchange among participants and spectators alike.

As the organizing committee gears up for this spectacular event, specialized teams are being deployed to ensure everything runs smoothly. The 2025 Hechuan Half Marathon is poised to be more than just a sporting competition; it promises to offer an enriching journey through Hechuan’s stunning landscapes and rich historical tapestry, making it an unforgettable experience for all involved.
