Introducing the PNC Alexandria Half Marathon
On April 27, 2025, the PNC Alexandria Half Marathon will make its debut, showcasing an evolution of the beloved PNC Parkway Classic. This premier spring running event, produced by Pacers Running and sponsored by PNC Bank, aims to attract thousands of runners and spectators from the DC Metro area and beyond. Participants will experience a unique and scenic perspective of the historic George Washington Memorial Parkway, complementing the introduction of the half marathon distance to the race lineup.
A Rich History of Scenic Racing
Since its inception in 1984, the Parkway Classic has earned a reputation as one of the East Coast’s most picturesque and spacious road races. Runners have enjoyed the breathtaking views along the course, which winds through beautifully blooming landscapes during the spring season, offering delightful sights of the Potomac River and the lush streets of Alexandria. The new PNC Alexandria Half Marathon will maintain this tradition, providing a classic road race experience while supporting local charities. To date, the event has raised nearly $1 million for various organizations, including this year’s sole benefactor, the Dunbar Alexandria- Olympic Boys + Girls Club.
Celebrating National Park Week
The PNC Alexandria Half Marathon will take place on the final day of National Park Week, an annual event that honors and celebrates America’s National Parks. This year, National Park Week is scheduled from April 19 through April 27, coinciding perfectly with the half marathon, providing additional motivation for participants to enjoy the great outdoors during this special week.
New Race Route Details
This year’s event will replace the traditional 10-mile distance with a new 13.1-mile half marathon route, taking runners through the historic Old Town Alexandria and along nearly 10 miles of the scenic George Washington Parkway. The main race will kick off at 7:30 a.m., featuring two distance options: the 13.1-mile half marathon or a 5K, making it accessible for runners of all skill levels. Both adult races will begin on King Street in front of City Hall and finish on North Union Street. Following the adult races, the schedule includes a 600-meter Kids Dash, sponsored by The Kidz Doc, for children under 12, which promises excitement and rewards for young participants.
Post-Race Celebrations and Unique Experiences
After crossing the finish line, participants will have the opportunity to unwind at a designated beer garden for adults aged 21 and over, courtesy of Port City Brewing Co. In addition to the celebration, runners can look forward to a high-quality race experience, featuring a technical race tee, finisher medals, complimentary photo booths, and chip-timed results to accurately track their performance.
Registration Information and Fees
For those interested in registering for the PNC Alexandria Half Marathon, the registration fees are set at $90 for the half marathon (note: prices will increase after February 24), $50 for the 5K, and $20 for the Kids Dash.
