This marks the event’s 13th edition and promises several exciting updates. Under the theme ‘Discover a New You’, this year’s marathon aims to inspire both novice and seasoned runners to push their limits while embracing sustainability.

Steffano Ridwan, President Director of Maybank Indonesia, highlighted that the Maybank Marathon continues to be a unique platform for running enthusiasts. As the first and only Elite Road Race in Indonesia, this event offers a competitive yet welcoming space to evaluate personal endurance and achievements. With over 12,700 participants registered from 57 countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, and Australia, the marathon is expected to draw significant international attention.

A New Venue and Race Schedule

This year, the marathon will take place at the Bali United Training Center in Gianyar, a new venue intended to enhance participants’ experience. The race starts early Sunday morning, with the Marathon kicking off at 4:30 AM WITA, followed by the Half Marathon at 5:30 AM WITA and the 10K at 6:00 AM WITA. An inclusive approach is reflected in the schedule with additional categories for wheelchair participants and children, showcasing the event’s commitment to accessibility.

Enhanced Prize Pool and Recognition for Achievers

Generously, the total prize pool for the Maybank Marathon 2024 is set at IDR 2.7 billion, to be awarded to 86 winners, including record breakers. Widya Permana, the Project Director for the marathon, expressed enthusiasm for featuring more Marathon participants this year—a notable increase of 17%, leading to a total of 3,500 in the Marathon category alone. The event is not just about participation; it sets the stage for talented runners, including 25 Indonesian fast runners, vying for qualification in the prestigious Boston Marathon 2025.

Activities include mangrove planting efforts at the Benoa Arboretum and the inauguration of an Eco-village organic waste management system in Gianyar. By incorporating reusable materials and providing solar-powered charging stations, Maybank Indonesia showcases its commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, deeply engaging participants in sustainability education.

Community Welfare Through Charity

Moreover, the Maybank Marathon 2024 includes a successful Run For Charity program, where runners can contribute to local welfare initiatives as they compete. By the time of the press conference, donations exceeding IDR 438 million had been raised through this initiative, intended to support local beneficiaries via Maybank’s partners. This demonstrates the marathon’s goal of fostering community engagement and social responsibility among participants.

Ensuring Safety and Security

Safety remains a top priority, with about 795 police officers and 450 community members helping to secure the race route. The health and safety of participants will be monitored with 900 marshals, 265 paramedics, and 39 ambulances on standby.
