The Anticipation Builds for the 13th Annual Mesa Marathon

The Mesa Marathon, renowned as Arizona’s premier running event, is set to take place on Saturday, February 8. This year marks the 13th edition of the marathon, bringing together over 10,000 runners and spectators alike from across the state and beyond. The city is buzzing with excitement as plans are finalized for what promises to be an unforgettable day of endurance and community spirit.

New Route Adjustments to Enhance the Race Experience

In an effort to continually improve the race experience, this year’s Mesa Marathon will feature a new course layout. The route has been strategically modified to shift one mile west, transitioning from Val Vista Drive to Lindsay Road. As participants navigate their way through this beautiful Arizona landscape, they will run west on McDowell Road before turning south on Lindsey, ultimately reaching Brown Road. This adjustment not only optimizes the race route but ensures a fantastic environment for both runners and attendees.

Road Closures and Community Impact

Participants and local residents should note that road closures will commence on race day from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. To assist with navigating these closures, the city of Mesa has developed an interactive detour map, accessible at gis.mesaaz.gov/mesamarathon. The city is dedicated to minimizing disruptions and will reopen roads as runners finish and crews complete clean-up tasks.

City Support for Residents and Visitors

Chris Brady, the City Manager of Mesa, emphasized the event’s significance, stating, “The Mesa Marathon is a great event that continues to grow and attract runners and fans from not just the valley, but from throughout Arizona and the country.” To further support residents during this time, the Mesa Transportation Department offers personalized route planning assistance both in the lead-up to the marathon and on the race day itself. Residents can easily reach out for help by calling 480-644-4882 or emailing barricade@mesaaz.gov.

Public Transportation Adjustments on Race Day

Beyond road closures, public transportation will also experience temporary changes as Valley Metro bus services will implement adjustments to several routes, including the 30, 48, 96, and others. For updated information on these detours, users are encouraged to download the Valley Metro app by visiting valleymetro.org/how-to-ride/online-tools/app. Alternatively, they can check valleymetro.org/rider-alerts for real-time updates.

A Route for Every Runner

Founded in 2012, the Mesa Marathon includes a variety of race options, catering to a broad spectrum of participants. From the full marathon to half marathon, 10K, and the Amazon Kids 1K, there’s something for everyone. All races will begin at 6:30 a.m., finishing at Mesa Riverview Park, with the Kids 1K starting at noon. The event is recognized as a USA Track & Field (USATF) sanctioned marathon, contributing to its status as one of the top Boston Qualifying races.

Join the Excitement of Mesa Marathon 2025

This year’s Mesa Marathon isn’t just about competitive running; it’s a celebration of community engagement and athletic achievement. Phil Dumontet, the CEO of the Mesa Marathon, expressed his gratitude for the partnership with the city, highlighting the efforts taken to make the 2025 event a resounding success. For those interested in participating or learning more about the event, registration details can be explored at mesamarathon.com.
