Moose Jawg Charity Road Race Transforms into Moose Jaw Running Festival

MOOSE JAW — In a significant development for the local running community, the 21st annual Moose Jawg Charity Road Race is set to expand its horizons in 2025, becoming a key component of the newly established Moose Jaw Running Festival. Scheduled for Sunday, June 8, this year’s festival promises an exciting assortment of events with four distinct race distances: a five-kilometre, a 10-kilometre, a Runt Run, and the southern Saskatchewan debut of a half-marathon.

Race director Andrea Amiot shared her enthusiasm for the festival, stating that the objective behind this transformation is to foster growth within the province’s running community while attracting more visitors to Moose Jaw. She acknowledged her collaboration with 321 Go Running, a Saskatoon-based company specializing in charity races. “My goal was to really grow the Moose Jawg, so I teamed up with 321 Go Running, and together we created the Moose Jaw Running Festival,” said Amiot.

As part of its legacy, the Moose Jaw Running Festival will continue to function as a charitable event. All proceeds from the race will be directed towards the Moose Jaw Health Foundation (MJHF). Kelly McElree, executive director of the MJHF, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the community, emphasizing the importance of such events for promoting health and well-being. “The event continues to grow in our community, and it sends all the right messages — to get out there, get healthy, and get active,” he remarked.

This year, proceeds will be specifically allocated towards pediatric rehabilitation at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital, marking a meaningful contribution to children’s health in the area. McElree acknowledged sponsors like Golden West Trailer & Equipment for their vital role in supporting both the festival and the foundation’s mission. “It shows that when people step forward and want to make a difference, they can, and we are thankful for that,” he added.

The Moose Jaw Running Festival will also introduce several exciting new features, including a new title sponsor—Golden West Trailer—and new partnerships, notably with Visit Moose Jaw, which aims to boost tourism and attract runners from outside the region. Furthermore, participants can look forward to expanded race swag options, such as a limited-edition hoodie, enhancing the overall experience of the festival.

Amiot, now in her third year as race director, has set her sights on exceeding 500 participants this year. “We went from donating $4,000 in my first year to over $9,000 last year to the MJHF. I’m hoping to raise substantially more this year,” she shared, indicating her commitment to making a positive impact through the festival.

For interested participants, details regarding the race routes are not yet finalized, but last year’s routes are available for viewing at MooseJawg.com to provide a sense of what to expect. The races will commence at The Attic Spin Studio, located at 237 Main Street North. Early-bird registration opens on March 14, with regular rates kicking in after the first month. Registration will remain open until Friday, June 6. For more information, potential participants can reach out to Andrea Amiot at 306-690-4814 or explore the latest updates on the festival’s Facebook page, Moose Jawg Charity Road Race.

The Moose Jaw Running Festival promises to be an exciting event for both local residents and visitors alike, fostering community spirit while supporting a worthy cause.
