64th San Blas Half Marathon in Coamo Set for March 1, 2026

The vibrant city of Coamo will once again become the epicenter of athletic fervor as it prepares to host the 64th San Blas Half Marathon on March 1, 2026. This year’s event promises to shatter previous participation records, with an expected turnout of approximately 5,000 runners from both local and international communities.

Registration Now Open

The Delta Phi Delta Fraternity, in collaboration with the San Blas Half Marathon Organizing Committee, announced earlier this week the opening of registration for this iconic marathon. “We would like to emphasize the importance of early registration. Runners are encouraged to secure their spots at micarrerapr.com,” stated Cruz Alberto Torres Colón, the president of the race. He further noted that registrations will close once the limit is reached.

Logistical Preparations and Support

In anticipation of the marathon, extensive logistical arrangements have been set in place. Participants will benefit from 16 support oases, which will be staffed by dedicated volunteers from local communities and high schools. Enhanced medical services and safety measures will be coordinated with local agencies, including the Firefighters, Police, and the Emergency Management & Disaster Administration, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all involved.

Affordable Registration Rates

With an aim to encourage widespread participation, the registration fee is competitively priced. Early registrants can take advantage of a reduced rate of $40 until December 31, 2025. Following this, the fee will rise to $50 from February 1 to February 15, 2026, ultimately reaching $60. Given the anticipated interest, participants are urged to register as soon as possible to secure their place.

Preview Events: The Fun Run

Prior to the main marathon, an exciting event, the José Elías “Chelías” de Jesús Fun Run, will be held on January 10, 2026. This 16-kilometer race is set to commence at 7 a.m. from the Luis Muñoz Rivera Public Plaza, providing a perfect opportunity for runners to warm up for the main event. This Fun Run promises to be a festive community gathering that underscores the spirit of the San Blas Half Marathon.

A Look Back at Previous Participation

Reflecting on the event’s growth, Torres Colón highlighted the increasing number of participants over the years. “In 2023, we achieved a remarkable record with 1,613 runners; in 2024, we concluded with 2,100 athletes, and last year, we saw a significant increase to 3,100. This year, we’re poised to achieve yet another historic milestone,” he pointed out. The rise in participation underscores the marathon’s expanding appeal and the commitment of the organizing committee to provide an exceptional experience.

Conclusion

The 64th San Blas Half Marathon is not just an event; it is a celebration of community, endurance, and athletic excellence. With its rich history and community support, the marathon is set to be a remarkable milestone in Puerto Rico’s sporting calendar. Interested participants are encouraged to register early to be a part of this iconic event that promises a memorable day filled with sportsmanship, camaraderie, and community spirit.
