Special Traffic Arrangements for the 2025 Shenzhen-Hong Kong Marathon Test Event

The upcoming 15th National Games Athletics (marathon) test event, scheduled for February 23, 2025, will necessitate special traffic arrangements to ensure a smooth running of the race. The Hong Kong Police Force has put in place precautionary measures to manage vehicular movement around the event location, particularly impacting the Shenzhen Bay Port area.

To maintain order during the marathon, clearance services at Shenzhen Bay Port will be temporarily suspended, and access points including the Shenzhen Bay Bridge, Kong Sham Western Highway, and Ha Tsuen Interchange will be closed from 2 AM until approximately 11 AM on the day of the event. This strategic closure aims to facilitate safety and focus on the athletes’ performance during the marathon.

During the suspension period, cross-boundary goods vehicles and private cars with valid permits will be directed to alternate routes, specifically Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang Port, Man Kam To Port, and Heung Yuen Wai Port. Motorists should be advised that routes leading to Lok Ma Chau may experience heightened traffic congestion, particularly on San Tin Interchange, San Sam Road, and Lok Ma Chau Road.

Once clearance services at Shenzhen Bay Port resume around 11 AM, Hong Kong travelers are encouraged to expect heavy traffic as commuters return to the port. It is advisable for anyone planning to use the port on that day to schedule their journey in advance and allocate ample time for transit to avoid delays.

Phased Traffic Control Plans

In addition to the aforementioned measures, the authorities have devised a phased approach concerning traffic at the Shenzhen Bay Boundary Control Point. In Phase I, all vehicles will adhere to the existing routes to access the boundary control point. Phase II will maintain current arrangements for goods vehicles while public transport vehicles will also utilize designated passenger vehicle lanes.

Importantly, cross-boundary private cars will be instructed to keep to the left on the Shenzhen Bay Bridge and access waiting areas via goods vehicle lanes. This planned systematic organization is essential for ensuring that all traffic flows efficiently without hindering the marathon event.

Advice for Motorists

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid driving to the aforementioned areas during the specified hours to minimize disruption. Moreover, it is crucial for all road users to remain patient and follow the guidance provided by onsite police officers. Cooperation with traffic control measures is essential for the benefit of all, ensuring both safety and seamless operations during the marathon test event.

For more information about traffic arrangements surrounding the 15th National Games athletics event, please visit the official [HKSAR Government Press Releases](https://www.gov.hk/en/residents/) where detailed updates and advisories will be available as the event date approaches.

Through these carefully designed traffic arrangements, the government hopes to create a conducive atmosphere for athletes and celebrate Hong Kong’s capacity to host major sporting events. The collaboration between various civic bodies is paramount in ensuring the success of such significant occasions.
