Ho Chi Minh City Set to Host Largest Midnight Marathon
Ho Chi Minh City is gearing up for the second season of the VPBank VnExpress Marathon, scheduled for March 3, 2024. According to Nguyen Nam Nhan, the Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, this event marks a significant milestone as the largest night-running marathon ever held in the city. With approximately 11,000 participants, the event is anticipated to attract a diverse group of runners from both Vietnam and abroad, highlighting the marathon’s growing popularity within the running community.
Nguyen Nam Nhan noted that among the expected participants, around 600 will be international runners, doubling the foreign participation from the first season. This surge is not only a testament to the marathon’s appeal but also its positive impact on the local economy, sports movement, and tourism. The event encourages runners to explore the vibrant streets and iconic landmarks of Ho Chi Minh City, creating a unique experience that extends beyond the competition.
The marathon’s route has been meticulously planned to ensure safety and enjoyment. Collaborating closely with various city departments, the organizing committee has taken steps to design routes that showcase the city’s most beautiful sites. “With the stature of VnExpress Marathon, runners set increasingly high demands,” Nhan stated. This year, the marathons will not only meet these expectations but also aim to establish a standard model for future events in the city.
To ensure the event’s safety and reliability, the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) has certified the marathon route. Hundreds of volunteers, police officers, and militia will be on hand for crowd control and to assist participants, which allows for an enhanced experience during the event. Organizers have placed numerous resources along the course, including 19 water stations and 11 medical assistance points to address runners’ needs effectively.
Special attention has also been given to lighting in sections of the route with inadequate street lighting, particularly around the Thu Thiem peninsula. These enhancements aim to guarantee that all runners feel secure throughout their experience. Nhan expressed confidence that the careful preparations made for the second season will lead to a safe and enjoyable time for all 11,000 participants.
VPBank, one of the strategic partners of the marathon, aims not just to be a sponsor but to actively contribute to the success of this growing running movement. Nguyen Thuy Duong from VPBank shared the bank’s commitment to investing resources and expertise to enhance the marathon’s appeal over the next five years, asserting that this partnership shows their dedication to promoting health and fitness through large-scale sporting events.
In summary, the VPBank VnExpress Marathon Ho Chi Minh City Midnight is more than a race; it is an opportunity to showcase the dynamic culture and vibrant lifestyle of Ho Chi Minh City. With comprehensive preparations and a strategic partnership with VPBank, organizers aim to establish the marathon as a hallmark event for both local residents and visitors alike, emphasizing the city’s rich hospitality, culture, and culinary diversity.
